Five minutes of SRP. Five minutes of magic.
Ok technically, the video is 6 minutes. But we set out to make a short video that could be played in classrooms around the world, hold the attention of teenagers, and help students understand the five actions of the Standard Response Protocol.
Tall task. We know.
The goal was simple: give students a quick, memorable introduction to Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter, what each action means, what they should do, and how we can practice school safety with no drama and no trauma.
Our first attempt? A script filled with Gen Alpha slang. The second attempt? Co-Founder John-Michael, as a substitute teacher being wheeled around the school by the students, Weekend at Bernie’s-style.
Our Gen Z staff (few though they may be) deemed both “too cringey.” Fair enough.
So, our tireless, on-call Hollywood Director, Ambika Leigh, went back to the drawing board.
We wanted something engaging without trying too hard. Funny without making light of something important. And evergreen enough that students could watch it for years without wondering what on earth we were talking about.
We landed on a script we loved. Then we worked with the Stillwater High School theatre department, held a traditional audition process, and that's where the magic happened.
They brought an energy, personality, and joy to the project that we never could have written into a script. The result is 5 Minutes, 5 Actions: The Standard Response Protocol (SRP), a student-led introduction to the SRP that's quick, memorable, and actually fun to watch.
What’s even more cool, we thought it would just be a video by teens, for teens, but it's nowbecome our universal SRP video. Enjoyed by all audiences.
Use it for back-to-school training - for students and staff. Start a classroom conversation. Play it before a drill. Or just spend five minutes getting everyone on the same page.
