Turns out, lightning can strike twice.
If you saw our SRP video, 5 Minutes, 5 Actions, you know we caught lightning in a bottle with the students at Stillwater Area High School.
So naturally, we had to find out if lightning could strike twice in the same place. Boy, did it.
We returned to Stillwater, MN, to work with the same group of students, plus some of their parents and other members of the community this time, to tackle another important part of school safety: reunification.
Reunification can be necessary after a wide range of situations at a school, from a power outage to a gas leak. But even knowing that, it can be a scary topic for parents to think about.
So, the goal was to create a simple, engaging way to help families understand reunification before they ever need it: what can cause a reunification, what the process looks like, what parents need to do, and why following the process matters.
Because when you're waiting to be reunited with your student, it's understandable to have questions; knowing what to expect ahead of time can make a big difference when emotions are high.
Show it at the beginning of the school year. Share it with families, students, and staff as part of your preparedness efforts. Or play it while parents are waiting in line during an actual reunification.
Apparently, the secret to explaining reunification is the same as the secret to explaining the SRP: put the Stillwater community in front of a camera and let them do their thing.
